description of sessions:
MATH SOLUTIONS
The Math Solutions sessions are full day sessions. These sessions are professional development around math instruction based on a series of observations done this fall by the Math Solutions consultant, as well as a survey sent to all math teachers across the district. Based on these, Math Solutions has developed a Needs Assessment for math instruction in our district. The professional development in these sessions both days will be a deep dive for all math teachers and aides involved in math instruction to look at effective strategies for instruction and intervention for our students.

SETTING STUDENT ASSESSMENT GOALS
In this all-day session, Janelle Vanasse, the superintendent of Mount Edgecumbe High School, will share strategies she and her staff at MEHS use with students to utilize data with students for setting and achieving goals, giving students responsibility and ownership over their progress and successes. She will discuss "assessment capable students", John Hattie's term for building skills in students so that they may assess where they are at, where they want to be, and what their next steps are in getting there.

WRITING ASSESSMENT
Each fall and spring, the district conducts its writing assessment for all students grades 1-12. In this all day session, teachers and classified staff will make a plan for how scoring of these assessments will take place, and begin implementing the scoring and calibration of these papers utilizing the 6+1 Trait Rubric.

CLASSIFIED TRAININGS
Monday's training will be for the purposes of certifying our staff in the Mandt System, which will enable them understand the crisis cycle, de-escalation techniques, and when necessary, safe restraint skills. Tuesday morning, staff will work with the business office to clarify expectations around time sheets, as well as clearing up confusing situations around time sheets. The staff will brainstorm ways to re-design data collection sheets in order to ensure the Sped department is getting information they need to have, in a way that is realistic for staff to collect. The afternoon will be focused on work understanding the causes and effects of misbehaviors, and developing effective strategies for supervision.
