overview of the day:
- The main sessions for this inservice will be primarily focused on practice of classroom strategies that will help teachers effectively teach the New Alaska Standards. Karen Melin and Deborah Riddle from EED will be here to spend the day in focused sessions with elementary and secondary teachers in ELA and Math. For 6-12th teachers, special focus will be on the literacy standards, which impacts all content area teachers.
- For staff who are involved with MCC (Math in a Cultural Context) Mathematician Victor Zinger, Dr. Jerry Lipka, and Dora Andrews-Ihrke will be here to work with you on integration of culturally based instructional strategies. This session will be in room 112 all day.
- At this inservice there is an opportunity for a two-day certification training with William Bradshaw on Student Crisis Intervention and Management. This session begins Friday, February 14th, and continues through Saturday, February 15th. Teachers interested in this training and certification should contact Kevin Moore. This session will take place in room 106 both days.

Session: New Alaska Math Standards
Who: ALL 6-12th grade teachers - math and other content
Where: Library
Time: 9:30am-12:30pm
In this session, Deborah Riddle, Math Content Specialist with EED, will help middle and high school teachers understand the 3 major standards shifts in math, as well at look at mathematical practices, and examine some instructional strategies for implementation of the Math standards in a hands-on session. Focus is secondary, with ideas for how the New Math Standards can be integrated across the content areas.
Session: New Alaska ELA Standards
Who: All elementary teachers
Where: Room 113
Time: 9:30am-12:30pm
In this session, Karen Melin, the Administrator for Instructional Support with EED, will help elementary teachers gain a greater cognitive understanding of the key shifts in the Alaska English Language Arts Standards, and present useful instructional strategies for implementation of the ELA standards in a hands-on session. Focus is elementary.
