Throughout the inservice schedule are sections labeled "Independent work and site meetings". These are meant to be exactly that, a choice that sites can make based on the needs of their staff. Meeting topics during inservice should be confined to discussing the logistics and operational decisions your site needs to make around instructional delivery models and safety planning. Other "typical" beginning of the year meeting topics like scheduling gym and recess time or textbook checkout procedures should wait until your regular work day when those kinds of topics are usually covered. This extended inservice is primarily to ensure teachers have the knowledge, tools, and supports necessary to build their courses into an online platform in order to meet the demands of different delivery models this year. In light of that, it is also prudent for sites to ensure they have a balance during these times between necessary meetings, and allowing staff time to work on this.
Here are some ideas for how these times can be utilized by all staff when not in site meetings:
1. Using the checklist to do peer course reviews for each other
2. Hosting mini pd sessions in which one staff member is willing to share some tips or tricks with others
3. Organizing as grade level groups
4. Organizing as content groups
5. Independent work - going through the checklist and getting the work done on the site
